Smart City as a Construction Industry Trend

Ted Vitale is an experienced construction executive who has worked in the Chapel Hill, North Carolina, construction industry for over 15 years. Leveraging more than 25 years of industry experience, Ted Vitale serves as a construction executive at a leading construction organization in Chapel Hill, where he provides construction and management services to various sectors, including retail and commercial developments. He also collaborates with executives and stays up-to-date with the latest trends in the industry to ensure project success.

One of the noteworthy trends poised to revolutionize the construction industry is smart cities. Smart cities comprise buildings and infrastructures built with the Internet of Things (IoT) and sensors capable of collecting and transferring data. In a smart city, authorities seamlessly handle traffic control and hazard elimination tasks. For example, a smart city can deploy IoT-based smart traffic lights and sensors that detect and adapt to heavy traffic, modifying the duration of green lights as necessary.

Global investment in smart cities is already substantial. In 2020, global smart city projects totaled $124 billion. According to market intelligence provider International Data Corporation (IDC), smart city investments will rise to $203 billion by 2024.

Best Buddies Helps Those with IDD

Serving the New York City region, Ted Vitale is the CEO of Petore Construction, a general-purpose contractor. Ted Vitale also donates to several non-profit organizations, including Best Buddies International, a group that helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Headquartered in Miami, Best Buddies aids individuals who are on the autism spectrum or have Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other conditions. Noting that some 200 million people worldwide experience marginalization due to intellectual and developmental disabilities, the agency operates a fourfold program of assistance.

Best Buddies encourages the forging of friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. Working in middle schools, high schools, and colleges, these programs offer inclusive interactions that build confidence and self-esteem. They are also open to adults and those who prefer virtual interaction.

Living with others is another good way to build relationships. To this end, Best Buddies’ residential facility in Washington, DC, enhances social skills through parties, sports, weekly meals, and field trips.

Finally, the organization develops leadership skills with its Ambassadors and Promoters programs. Ambassadors learn speechmaking so they can share their living experiences with public interest groups, while promoters serve in schools without intellectual and developmental disabilities classes and participate in assemblies and fundraisers.

Fine Italian Cuisine in Five Locations

Ted Vitale serves as the CEO of Petore Construction, a contractor serving the New York metropolitan area. In this capacity, Ted Vitale has spearheaded many commercial projects, such as the Alta Strada restaurants.

The first Alta Strada opened in 2007 in Wellesley, Massachusetts, the brainchild of award-winning restaurateur Michael Schlow. The popularity of his classic Italian cuisine led him to open four more locations in Boston, Connecticut, Virginia, and Washington, DC. The menu at the latter location gives some idea of Alta Strada’s offerings.

Diners can choose from several appetizers, including calamari, mussels, shrimp scampi, and creamy burrata. Moving on to the main course, they can enjoy pasta specialties such as baked ziti, mushroom ravioli, and tagliatelle Bolognese. Other entrees include from chicken Parmigiana and Mediterranean branzino. Four kinds of pizza are also available: Trenton style, margherita, bianca, and grilled “al forno.” Visitors can complete their experience with desserts such as tiramisu and bombalina. WAA is best known for the annual event of placing wreaths on headstones of fallen soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. In 2020, however, WAA placed over 1.7 million sponsored wreaths at 2,557 sites spread across participating locations all over the US.

For 2021, Wreaths Across America has organized a series of virtual races supporting the organization’s mission, "Remember, Honor, Teach". This is after eight virtual races were successfully held in 2020 across the country.
